Antelope Valley Learning Academy

frequently asked questions

Is this Charter School free for me to attend?
Yes, AV Learning Academy is a public school funded by the state and therefore attending our program is at no cost to you. Curriculum, learning center classes, tutoring. ALEKS math…all of it is at no cost to you.

Who can enroll?
We service students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade. You can enroll as a new student any time throughout the school year. Contact us for more information, as there are various exceptions based on state laws.

How does your program work?
Students in this program will complete assignments at home with their parents acting as the teacher. Optional on-site classes are available, too, in an effort to give students social skills and to take the burden off the parent in some of the more difficult courses. AV Learning Academy provides families with a certificated teacher who acts as a general supervisor (or “Supervising Teacher”) over each child’s progress, making sure they are meeting state standards. The teacher will also guide parents through the educational process, offering tips and tricks on how to teach the child, direction on scheduling the student’s academic day, and counseling on the best practices. Parents/students are required to meet with their teacher a minimum of once per school learning period (generally 20 school days), but meetings often take place much more often (as assistance is needed).

How do I get started?
First, you need to attend an Information Session to learn about our program, what we offer, and how we operate. Call 661-952-6028 today to schedule yours.

How can I get the registration paperwork?
Once you’ve attended an Information Session, you will be provided with all the registration materials and an enrollment appointment should you choose to enroll with us.

Where do I go to get my immunization records?
Usually you can obtain your immunization records from your most recent school that you attended. If they do not have them then you can contact your treating physician and they will give you a copy.

How long will the Information Session last?
The Information Session typically lasts about an hour, but may run a little longer depending on questions and discussion from the attendees. We take as much time as is needed in order to ensure you have all the necessary information so you can make the best choice for your child and your family.

Is lunch provided to the students?
No. Our program is not a site-based program. Our students have the choice to be in class one to two days a week for around 3 hours, so lunch is not provided. We do track free/reduced lunch eligibility as required by the state, however.

Do you provide transportation?
No. However, most of our locations are located very close to the city’s main bus lines. Some of our centers even have a bus stop right outside the front doors!

Do you offer summer school?
AV Learning Academy offers a Summer Enrichment program which allows students to catch up or finish up at their own pace and still be ready for their next grade level.

I don’t always feel safe at my school. Will your charter school make me feel safe and confident while learning?
Yes. Our staff takes pride in creating a safe and comfortable environment for our students to learn in. If you were to ever have any concerns or suggestions for ways that we can make you feel more comfortable just let us know!

I have an IEP. Am I still able to attend your school?
Of course! We have some wonderful staff on board who specialize in IEP students. For detailed information on our IEP program, please contact us directly.

Do you offer field trips? Yes! We offer a variety of field trips that are at little to no cost. Some of the fun places we’ve gone include the California Science Center, The Gentle Barn, the Lancaster Performing Arts Center, Placerita Nature Center, and many other places. We do not, however, provide transportation, so transportation to and from our field trips and the supervision of your child is your responsibility. We meet at a designated place and time and enjoy the field trip as a group.
